The MWBE certification for minority women-owned business is the most recognizable and sought-after certification of its kind. DMWBD’s standard of certification is a rigorous process including an in-depth review of the business practice. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a minority and/or woman/women.

By including minority women-owned businesses among their vendors, corporations, and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier/vendor diversity programs

About Division of Minority and Women’s Business Development (DMWBD)

The mission of DMWBD is to promote equality of economic opportunities for MWBEs and to eliminate barriers to their participation in state contracts. They participate in New York State’s economic leadership to promote and increase access to information and opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses throughout the state.

Why Work with an MWBE-Certified Business?

The first reason has to do with the bottom line: they can gain substantial tax savings. Another reason is more philosophical. Companies may simply want to pursue diversity among their supplier and customer network. Depending on a business’s objectives, seeking out MWBEs to partner with can help reinforce their mission and values.
